Wood Shutters
Shutters are a great decorating choice for many reasons. From a design viewpoint, they easily blend with the architectural elements of most windows, and can compliment both traditional and contemporary styles. They will elegantly combine many desired features, such as light control, privacy, energy efficiency, and noise reduction. Shutters enhance window beauty from both inside and outside. Color selection is simple; in most cases matching adjacent window trim. Surprisingly, shutters are a relatively affordable option, especially in the Atlanta area market.
Louver Sizes
We offer wood shutters in the following louver sizes: 1¼, 1⅞, 2½, 3½, and 4½. The two most popular sizes are 2½ and 3½.
Options
Mounting: Shutters can be installed inside or outside mount, with or without a frame. At Palisades, we believe this decision, once all functional and aesthetical options are considered, should ultimately be left to the client, given the wide variety of window trims and casings, and the custom nature of each individual job.
Divider Rail / No Divider Rail: A horizontal rail can be placed in the shutter panel, creating an upper and lower section of louvers, which can be operated independently. For example, you can close the bottom louvers for privacy, and keep the top louvers open for light and view. This is often done on double hung windows. For casement and picture windows, the No Divider Rail option is often chosen for a cleaner look.
Split Tilt Rod: this option achieves essentially the same thing as the Divider Rail, but without adding a rail to the shutter panel. The control rod which connects to the louvers, is simply cut, usually in the center of the panel, allowing for independently operated upper and lower louver sections.
Color Matching / Hardware
Having your shutters painted or stained the exact color of your window trim is a detail that ensures the professional look of the shutter installation. To ensure the closest match, whenever possible, we will use the same paint you have on your existing trim, whether water based or oil; and , we can often use the exact paint manufacturer (i.e. Benjamin Moore, Linen White, etc). This ensures that the paint on the shutter, and the paint on the window trim, will age the same. For Hardware, our most popular choices are hinges finished in Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Satin Nickel, White or Off White Baked powder coated, but we also offer other finishes, such as Antique Brass, Polished Brass, Pewter and Dark Pewter.

Unlike many window coverings, one great advantage of shutters is that they can be made to fit to almost any shape, while still maintaing the architectural beauty of the window and adjacent moulding.
